Public Health Innovation & Entrepreneurship | Tribe Talks | Alessandro Ciari

Are you a public health innovator or entrepreneur?

Can you be interested in BOTH public health AND entrepreneurship?

Yet public health is all about reducing inequalities while tackling environmental health and the wider social determinants of health. In public health, we want to improve the health & wellbeing of the population, through health protection, health promotion, and the improvement of healthcare services.

Surely that doesn’t match what entrepreneurship is all about, which seems to be about sales, marketing, building a unicorn and aiming for an exit?

One of the core pillars of public health is epidemiology and research. However, the pace of translation of research into practice is TOO SLOW to keep up with the challenges we face in global health.

That’s where research and innovation need the help of entrepreneurship, bringing new ideas, solutions, and ways of working to life. This can take the form of intrapreneurship or social entrepreneurship.

My guest today is returning to the show to speak about public health entrepreneurship, as well as to share a great opportunity.

Alessandro Ciari is Head of Growth and Partnerships at Firefly Innovations, powered by the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy and the NYU-CUNY Prevention Research Center.

Be sure to check out their upcoming Public Health Innovation Accelerator (application deadline: May 27, 2022), which I had the pleasure of speaking at last year. This year’s theme is all about reaching health equity.

Be sure not to miss a special appearance by Arlen Meyers, MD MBA, president of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs, who will be asking a challenging question.

If you’re new here, welcome! As The Entrepreneur’s Doctor, I’m here to help you monetise your health expertise and lived experience, by creating a thriving online business, without risking your family, financial, or job security, so you can scale your impact, have the freedom to do what you love, and have fun being creative.
